                                                April 25th - April 30th, 2005

Yale Television, the Yale Undergraduate Organizations Funding Committee and eight student advocacy groups have come together to sponsor a week long lecture series, titled Action! When Hollywood Takes A Stand.

The event will run from Monday April 25th- Saturday April 30th  on the Yale campus in New Haven, Connecticut.  The dates fall during reading week, when undergraduate classes have ended for the year and exams have not yet begun.

The event aims to bring together leading figures from entertainment and advocacy to discuss the impact of Hollywood as a tool for social change.

Speakers will address a different area of advocacy on each of the five days of the series.  These areas are:  ethnicity and race;  gender and sexuality;  the environment;  human rights and humanitarian intervention; and disability.

The sixth day (Saturday April 30th) will feature a keynote speaker.

Speakers will appear at a 4.30pm Masters Tea, an informal event for 20-30 students hosted by one of the twelve residential colleges at Yale.

They will then present a 7pm lecture which will be open to the Yale community.

Each day will conclude with a 9pm screening of a film related to the issue of the day, open to the Yale community.

The events will be free and open to members of the Yale community.

This event is sponsored by a coalition of Yale student advocacy groups and Yales student-run television station, YTV.  Our member groups are the Asian American Cultural Center; the Black Student Alliance at Yale; the Journal of Human Rights; La Casa Cultural; the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Co-Operative at Yale; Special Needs Awareness and Peer Services; the Yale Student Environmental Coalition; YTV and the Yale Undergraduate Organization Funding Committee.
